MARLOWE STOUDAMIRE, is a social capital expert, business strategist and speaker with 20 years’ experience in local and global business, philanthropy and social impact capacities for public and private sector organizations and diverse communities. He is owner of business consulting boutique Butterfly Effect Detroit and is also the founder of Mash Detroit, a neighborhood incubator and community bridge that helps people from all walks of life collaborate, build business and re-imagine shared physical space.
His professional mission is to help people, organizations and cities realize their full potential by leveraging relationships, expanding capacity and making smart investments of resources that spur economic activity, cultural enrichment and social impact in markets where they live, do business or have a vested interest.
Prior to launching his business, he served as Chief of Staff at the Skillman Foundation and project director of global business strategy at Henry Ford Health System – most notably projects in China, India and Saudi Arabia. More recently, he leads the Detroit Historical Society’s ground-breaking Detroit 67: Looking Back to MOVE FORWARD project. His leadership, strategy and influence has been behind several high-profile projects across the region such as JP Morgan Chase Detroit Service Corps, Detroit Public Television’s “One Detroit”, the economic development focused Live 6 Alliance and other major private and public-sector initiatives.
Marlowe is trusted and respected by mentors, peers and subject matter experts across different cultures, generations and geographies. He gives back to the community, provides advisory support to multi-sector leaders, and participates as a speaker and contributor to forums, conferences and round tables across the country. Defining social capital as the cultural, economic or personal value obtained from relationships and experiences shared by people, communities and entities; Marlowe believes the value you and your business get from relationships depends on the investments you make in them. Most important, he works with strategic tenacity to create relational reciprocity and accountability around mutual interest, purpose and space that otherwise wouldn't exist.
